“WHERE THE SPIRIT MEETS THE BONE”
at Satori Academy of Arts, Dhaka, Bangladesh
From April 25 – May 10, 2025
Curated By Kehkasha Sabah
WHERE THE SPIRIT MEETS THE BONE – a two-fold exhibition from April 25 to May 16, 2025, at Satori Academy of Arts. This project reconsiders the concept of a 'moving image' through expanded programs, creating accessible platforms that encourage critical discussions.
“Taking its title from the poem ‘Compassion’ by American poet Miller Williams, Where The Spirit Meets the Bone is a speculative project evoking profound internal space for reflection and care, necessary in the often indescribable human terrain where vulnerability converges. The project is a curatorial experiment – staging a two-fold exhibition and letting them move and morph inside one venue. Hosted at Satori Academy of Arts in Banani, Dhaka, in a serene urban space dedicated to meditation and individual consciousness, helps to amplify the exhibition’s curatorial vision.”
“Chapter one traces mental and physical care, letting us see how artists translate everyday wounds—both seen and unseen—into sensorial encounters. Through visual, tactile, auditory, and olfactory approaches, each work gestures toward healing, compassion, and consciousness.”
“Chapter two installs two commissioned experimental workshops production, reframing the moving image through the critical lenses of ‘body and machine’, and ‘pedagogy and practice’.”
The first chapter explores sensory ecologies through the personal to global lenses of social, emotional, and cultural fractures, emphasizing care as an active process for healing, through somatosensory works by transnational artists and pieces from the British Council Collection. The second chapter presents the outcomes of two month-long workshops conducted by two art educators and attended by four artists, exploring moving images in relation to the local context. The project combines a constellation of moving images, sound installations, and interactive works from transnational artists, along with three artworks from the British Council Collection.
